The birth of Seimei

This is a tale about a young prince named Fujiwara no Hikaru. One night he could not sleep and went outside into his garden to gaze at the moon. Sitting in the moonlight he took up his flute and played a simple tune. The notes flowed under the pale moonlight, mixing with the silver shadows in the garden. Not before the last note had faded, a spirit came into view. This was one of the tricksters, a spirit fox named Shiroigitsune. The demon stood in front of the young prince. The young man yet again let the music fly, making the demon fox dance of joy. Night after night they meet under the darkened sky. After many moons the young man gave life to a hanyou, half human, half demon fox. This child he named Seimei. Holding him up in the moonlight the prince cried for the fate of his child.
